Industrial Hemp & GAP Outreach Coordinator, South Carolina Department of Agriculture
Vanessa joined Department of Agriculture in May 2018. As a Hemp advocate, her role in the Industrial Hemp Pilot Program as the Hemp coordinator, she facilitates expansion of the program. With implementations of processor licenses and lab testing. She intends on strengthening the relationship with the growers and supporting the success of the program. She also is the Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) coordinator assisting farmers and preparing them to achieve GAP certifications.
She is originally from California, where she obtained her Bachelors in Agriculture Science and minor in Regenerative Studies. She worked on California vegetable farms for many years. Throughout her study she worked closely with school crops, hydroponics, propagation and health and maintaining citrus trees. She also worked with the California Department of Food and Agriculture inspecting aircrafts for Japanese Beetles to protect the citrus in California. She continues to study sustainability and how to incorporate it with farming in the state of South Carolina.
